Nurse Assistant Observation Unit - 36 Hours Week Day Shift

GENERAL SUMMARYUnder the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse (RN), performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient.
Provides input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures.
Recognizes and participates in own continuing education.
The Nurse Assistant follows the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence in all interactions.
Observation Unit - 20 bed unit.
Observation level patients with an emphasis on cardiac patients.
The population excludes stroke patients, pediatrics and certain infection control patients related to community bathrooms.
NURSE ASSISTANT TASK LISTPatient Care ActivitiesHygiene Provides a clean, comfortable and safe patient environment Baths Oral Care Hair Care Grooming and shaving Linen changes Skin care as directed Elimination Assists with elimination needs Administers enemas (non-medicated) Empties and changes ostomy bags on patients with healed stomas Performs perineal care and incontinence care Changes diapers Empties urinary catheter as directed Applies and empties fecal containment devices, per business unit process Applies condom catheters Vital Measurements Temperature, pulse and respiration Blood Pressure Intake & Output Pulse Oximetry Height and weight Presence of pain per business unit process Collects Specimens (per business unit process):
Venipuncture Blood Glucometer Urine Stool Sputum Nasogastric Secretions Food and Nutrition Feeds patients Documents food intake Prepares full strength tube feeding under the supervision of the RN:
fills and labels the feed bag; does not connect tube feeding, perform placement checks or do residual checks.
Activity/Exercise (as directed):
Ambulates patients Turns and positions patients in a comfortable position Transfers patients from bed to chair and bed to stretcher Assists in transportation of patients from department to department as directed Safety Cares for patients in isolation Reports patient findings and observations to the RN Reports abnormal findings Assists the Unit Care team in all emergency situations Reapplies restraints per the direction of the RN and completes safety checks Other Tasks (under direction of RN and per business unit process):
EKG Places telemetry leads Applies heat and cold, antiembolic devices, and sequential compression devices per direction of the RN Changes non sterile dressings under the direction of the RN Post mortem care Prepares room for admission Assists in patient discharge as directed Participates in the care of patient belongings Communication Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality Answers call lights Greets patients and visitors Informs the patient of what they are going to do for the patient Obtains report form the RN and gives report to the RN Obtains help for the patient and reports patient complaints promptly Assists in collection of information upon direction Management of Supplies and Materials Assures that supplies are available Stocks materials to areas identified by the unit Assures that equipment is functioning properly Assures that equipment is clean and stored in the correct place Maternal Child Health Areas/InfantsVital Measurements Measures weights with an infant scale Measures head circumference Obtains vital signs of infants (does not perform Rectal Temps) Nutrition Feeds infant with a bottle and nipple per direction Sets up breast pump NICU - performs gavage feeding of infants under the direction of the RN, (does not place the tube or do residual checks) Specimen Collection Performs capillary heel stick to obtain specimens Performs urine tests for blood sugar, acetone, albumin EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

equivalent CNA preferred Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (titles for similar programs may vary; e.
g.
, Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT) but perform the same job role.
OR May be currently enrolled in a nursing program and have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
OR Foreign trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States and does not hold a Michigan RN license.
OR Completion of a Medical Assistant program with OR without experience.
OR At least one (1) year of previous experience in an NA, PCT, PAT, or similar job role.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Complete BLS Heartsaver Certification during orientation.
Recommended Skills Basic Life Support Certified Nurse Practitioner Certified Nursing Assistant Confidentiality Electrocardiography Health Care Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
